The region stretches gently from the coast up to the undulating hills 300 metres above sea level, offering fantastic views of the surrounding countryside running down to the sea, and along the coastline to Gibraltar and Africa ; the African Mountains and African coastline are often clearly visible.

HISTORY
Calahonda contains fragments of its history, including one of the restored beacon Moorish towers, part of the protection dating back to Roman times. Their purpose was to give warnings of the presence of enemy vessels. The fort house of the land dated from the same period; it meant shelter and was therefore provided with a big fireplace to prepare meals and to give warmth during attacks. The area of Calahonda was formed by the merging of two real estates, with an area of 280 hectares was owned by the brothers Gerardo, Enrique and Elvira Van Dulken. Founder Mr Juan Orbaneja, originally an industrial engineer and member of the local government started to develop Calahonda In 1963. He contacted the owners, the Van Dolmen family in 1966. On the arrival of Mr. Juan Urbane, infrastructure works carried out were the ones in Agenda de Span and Called de la Playa. From difficult beginnings bringing in of water and telephone lines, maintenance problems were rectified and by 1980 there were 500 houses.
